EWFC History

The EWFC was formed in 2019 and entered the first walking football World Cup at Leyton orient where they came away as 50’s World Champions, this team was made up from the Birmingham based Club team Pele’s pearls who had earned their place to represent England by winning the Peoples cup earlier that year.

In the latter part of 2019 and early 2020 the EWFC ran regional trials with the final selection being made at Birmingham Goals in Feb 2020. 

After being selected to play for the EWFC in 2020 and making his debut in Aug 2020 against Rep Of Ireland, Tony Norton saw something was not right and felt the EWFC needed to be organised better so agreed to become the Chairman and working with a great Council have turned the EWFC into a professional, transparent organisation with the players safety, enjoyment and needs a priority.

The whole council are very proud of what they have achieved and set up mainly during lockdown, they could not have got where we are today without the hard work of all the Council. They all give up so much time and energy for the benefit of others.

We are all so proud and thankful of the New managers and coaches who have joined us on this journey, they have all given the 90 current players at the EWFC a huge boost in their confidence and ability.

All our managers and coaches are FA badged and bring with them a huge amount of experience in both walking football and main stream running football.

In early 2022 we entered into a partnership with Redditch Utd and agreed to have their Valley Stadium as our home ground , using it for all our monthly training and all home matches

We now have an England mens over 50, 60 and 70, a womens over 40, 50 and 60.

In 2022 we won all three rounds on the Nations Cup against Wales, Rep of Ireland and the IOM.

The EWFC have male and female players who played professionally , semi pro and some who only found their love of football in later life when they found walking football.

Many of our women players were denied the opportunity of playing professionally due to the discrimination against women playing football when they were young.

In July 2022 The Walking Football Leagues Alliance (WFLA) and England Walking Football Community (EWFC) entered into a Partnership as they have so much in common, have the same principles and desires for the game of walking football.

Both organisations fully support the National Governing Body in England (The FA) and its Laws of the Game.

Neither has any aspiration to be a NGB, and neither wishes to dictate to the world of walking football how things should be done.

WFLA was initially set up by Bill Murney to bring FA Affiliated leagues together as an alliance and to share best practice, to share ideas and principles to ensure that leagues are fun, fair, consistent, and played to the LOTG set by The FA.

EWFC’s main focus is to provide men over 50, 60 & 70, and women over 40, 50 & 60 the opportunity to represent their country via trials in International games home and abroad. 

EWFC is professionally set up and run in line with any large club to the guidelines of the FA structure. 

We will share resources and facilities where needed and where possible but most importantly share ideas, best practice and documentation that will benefit all concerned. This will help with consistency so many people in walking football repeatedly ask for.
